The Most Expensive Cat Breed (Fur Ball), the Bengal
February 14, 2007 | Posted by Allison as The Most Expensive at 11:00 am | (10) Comments »
I’ll tell you something first, I have met many a cat I have not liked, and only a few that even began to tickle my fancy, but there are some valentine’s out there who love nothing more than a feline purr.
Say hello to the most expensive cat breed in the world, the bengal. Who would have thought that someone would actually dish out $42,000 for a house cat, plus vet bills?! Englishwoman Cindy Jackson broke the record of the most expensive cat for paying that $40k from bengal breeder Lord C. Esmond Gay back in 1998.
Bengals aren’t usually that expensive, but they are one of the most expensive pets, averaging anywhere between $2000 – $4000. So, for me to buy a bengal, it’s like, “Hmmm, should I pay the mortgage or get a cat?”

My bengal was not 40K. Thre are rescue groups as Bengals require alot of attention. But do I love my Bengal – you bet! He comes when he is called and gives lots of kitty kisses. Don’t like him sharing the bathtub with me.

Actually the World’s most expensive cat is known as the Ashera, it’s the largest, rarest, most exotic, and expensive domestic cat known about. And it costs about $24,000. That’s the price not just what one person paid…. it’s crazy

I love cats more than anything in the world…but if you are that vain and sad to pay over $100 for a cat when there are cats being put to sleep every day in shelters than I just feel bad for you. Seriously $40k?? That’s just sick. Granted the Bengals are beautiful and who wouldn’t want a cat that can live to be a quarter of a century old…but spending that much on an animal when there are millions of kittens and cats being put to sleep each day in shelters because there aren’t people willing to adopt them and isn’t enough funding to keep them…just breaks my heart. How shallow are people that they have to have the best of the best when it comes to animals?! What people don’t realize is that any animal can become the most amazing, beautiful, enviable, talented and wonderful animal if they are just given the time of day. I don’t work for the aspca or spca or any animal organization…but I wish I did so I could talk some sense into people who think that having a “pure” bread cat is the only way to go. My cat is a Maine Coon. He showed up on my back porch 5 years ago. He’s one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen and yet he just showed up out of nowhere one day. If I went to a breeder; my cat would have easily cost me over $5,000. Luckily, by fate, my cat found me and I have loved and cherished him ever since. What people don’t realize is that any cat can become a pure bread–it’s all about the love and care you provide for them. Even a mangy stray can end up being “Best In Show”. Just love them for what they are. Don’t spend an arm and a leg on your next cat…because it will only be a winner if you are willing to make it a winner not because of their price tag–but because of how they touched your life.
