Luxury Yotel Hotel Coming To New York This June

April 13, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Estate of the Day, Tid Bits & News at 7:55 am | Comments off

The first Yotel Hotel this side of the Atlantic is heading to New York this June and you don’t want to miss a chance to peek at this luxury hotel.

Yotel specializes in smaller luxury rooms, or cabins as Yotel calls them, for traveling executives who tire of all the wasted square footage of suites.  The new Hotel will be located in the new 60-story LEED-certified glass tower Middle of Manhattan, which is just a few blocks from Times Square.

Each of Yotel’s nearly 700 rooms will offer visitors all the comfort of a luxury hotel in New York at a much smaller scale – rooms, or “cabins” as they are called, only occupy about ten by seventeen feet of space. It’s enough for a sumptuous bed, a super-compact bathroom, and an ultraluxe “techno wall” featuring a state-of-the-art flat screen television and music station. Check-in will be fully automated, airport style, and luggage will be handled and stored by the luxury hotel’s friendly Yo-bots. Meanwhile, downstairs Yotel plans to go big with a super-hip Japanese inspired restaurant called Dohyo and a swank lounge worthy of the city.

Sounds like just what the busy executive traveler needs, and we can’t wait for our already-booked NYC trip to try this new Yotel out.

Luxury cruise Line Crystal Cruises Goes All-Inclusive

March 23, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Tid Bits & News at 8:18 am | Comments off

Beginning spring 2012, luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises will be going boldly where few cruise lines have gone before, all-inclusive.

Starting next year open bars will be serving cruisers anything their heart desires and crew gratuities will be included in cruise fares.  The all-inclusive option is available on both the 922-passenger Crystal Symphony and 1,070-passenger Crystal Serenity.

“We’re looking to ease the [financial] transaction with guests,” spokeswoman Mimi Weisband reveals.

“By adding open bars and complimentary wines at dinner and the ability to order (alcohol) in your staterooms as well, there’s an ease with that. And by adding the gratuity, it’s just a seamless experience. People can literally go on a cruise and not pay an additional charge.”

Sounds like a perfect dream to us, having to constantly be signing credit card slips becomes so droll!

Seventeen Magazine’s April Issue Goes Luxurious

March 16, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Tid Bits & News at 8:22 am | Comments off

Hearst’s Seventeen magazine will reportedly be going more luxury-oriented with their April issue.

Adweek is reporting that the April style guide will be much more lavish this year, featuring many more high-end products than usual, such as a stunning pair of $400 Marc Jacob shoes for the teen in your life.

Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen, Ann Shoket, explains, “We 100 percent do not want to alienate our readers who want to shop at accessible price points. We always want to be at reach for our readers…But there’s something to be said for delicious designer splurges. This style guide was a real reaction to that.”

While we understand Shoket’s point of view, in this current market, we expect you wouldn’t want your teen to pick up the April issue!

Bulgari Joins LVMH, Is Hermes next?

March 9, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Tid Bits & News at 10:00 pm | Comments off

bulgari

Sometimes it seems like LVMH owns everything. Everything important, that is. I mean, the full name of the company, Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, says it all, doesn’t it. Well, now they’ve gone out and added Bulgari to their list of holdings. Yes, that’s right, luxury jeweler Bulgari is now an LMVH operation.

Analysts aren’t really sure what the acquisition means for either company. LVMH has come to be called, in recent years, the “Wal-Mart of luxury goods”. But, unlike Wal-mart, LVMH seems to be doing a great job of managing its many companies and keeping their quality up to par. Purportedly next on LVMH’s wish list is Hermes, the French luxury leather goods retailer. Hermes has, apparently, been quite stalwart in their resistance to LVMH. The CEO of Hermes recently said:

Hermes is not managed on financial principles .. it is managed on the principle of the artifact in the best possible finish with the finest raw materials, with creativity as strong as possible that make people come into our stores … If you give economic control to financiers, they will kill the economy because they want short-term results.

Beyonce Donates Qaddafi Money To Haiti

March 3, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Tid Bits & News at 8:05 am | Comments off

Well, let’s hear it for Beyonce who is the first in a short line of US singers to donate funds they received from family members of Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi.

The singer’s rep confirmed that she has instead donated the money to Haiti over a year ago, which is 100 times better than giving it back, “All monies paid to Beyonce for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year’s Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago.”

“Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause.”

40-year-old Mariah Carey received $1 million for a luxurious New Year’s Eve bash in St. Barts and has yet to comment on if she plans on donating her own funds.  Usher also has earned an undisclosed amount for performing on the same Caribbean island.

Teen singing sensation Justin Bieber celebrated his 17th birthday in style and luxury with girlfriend Selena Gomez.

To ring in his new year, Bieber and Gomez spared no expense by spending his birthday weekend at the St. Regis Monarch Beach hotel in Dana Point, California, where his room ran $6000 per night.

A source revealed that the couple just wanted to be by themselves for the weekend, saying, “For the most part, Justin and Selena wanted to be left alone. They didn’t have bodyguards or parents with them, but there was an emergency contact list at the front desk with numbers for a bodyguard and some of their people’s info if they needed it in any way.”

The $6K per night Presidential Suite features an on-call butler, two bedrooms, a dining room spacious enough to seat 1o, and a private balcony overlooking the ocean with a hot tub.  Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate your 17th.

Mariah Carey Paid $1 Million To Sing At Qaddafi New Year’s

February 24, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Tid Bits & News at 9:15 am | Comments off

Wow, talk about an interesting celebrity development.  According to WikiLeaks, Mariah Carey apparently sang at the Qaddafi family’s New Year’s celebration back in 2009.

The Qaddafi family reportedly paid the singer $1 million to sing a mere four songs at a New Year’s Day family bash in the Caribbean, more specifically on the island of St. Barts.

And Carey isn’t the only celeb who performed for the Libyan leader, Beyonce and Usher were hired to sing at last year’s New Year’s celebration also in St. Barts, though no word as to how much the power players were paid for their singing services.

Talk about how being a lavish celebrity is both a good thing and a bad thing!
