Not a gift I gave, a gift that I received. I know, I know, you’re really wondering why I would bother writing about a nail file, but if you get your paws on one of these babies, you’ll wonder no more.

Can a simple manicure tool be luxurious? Well, if it can be, this one is. The one I received was bought at Harrod’s in London, but you can get them at high end department stores the word over. So, what’s the big deal? Besides the fact that they come packaged in an understated velvet pouch, the files themselves are really beautiful. The frosted crystal doesn’t look like something you want to push to the back of your cosmetics drawer, it deserves its own spot on its vanity.

But not only are they beautiful, they’re totally practical and basically indestructible. They smooth beautifully and then you just give them a quick rinse off and they’re just like new. It may be too late for me to fill all my girlfriend’s stockings with these, but there’s always next year.

But this one’s totally new to me. Equinox Spas (at Equinox gyms in a city near you) are currently offering a 24 karat gold collagen mask facial.

Nicole Vitale, senior director of Equinox spas, says of the new treatment, “While our new gold mask is simply beautiful, its real benefits are a matter of complex chemistry and biology. Gold powder, when combined with the proper level of silk extract, blocks free radicals to help the skin regenerate quicker and fuller. After a single treatment, your face will look and feel firmer, fresher and vibrant.”

The treatment is preceded by their famous traditional European facial, so you get all the pampering plus the gold. Sounds like an amazing way to spend an afternoon after braving the department store holiday sales.

Some of them are made from fresh herbs and spices, and smell so good they seem edible. While this black caviar scrub doesn’t contain any actual caviar, it sure looks like the real thing.

Luckily, it doesn’t actually smell like fish eggs. Balenciaga’s caviar scrub is scented with the line’s signature violet fragrance. Yummy as it is, it smells a little too flowery to eat. The rich black microbeads float in a moisturizing gel. When you rub them on your skin, they burst in an explosion of exfoliation, smoothing away dull flakes and replenishing your skin’s vibrancy at the same time.

While this scrub would make a more than fabulous stocking stuffer, but the fragrance can be a little overwhelming, so make sure that special someone is fond of it before you make this little splurge.
