The first of the new Ritz-Carlton Reserves will soon be opening in Krabi, Thailand. One of the new concepts of the hotel chain, these smaller more boutique-style hotels will feature the finest in accommodations.
Each hotel location has been hand-picked for natural beauty as well as unique features, so it’s obvious that Thailand would be unveiled first.

D.C. is finally seeing the grand opening of the 25th North American W Hotel.
Last Thursday the Washington W Hotel opened its luxury doors for the first time, leaving us tingling but also wishing it had been open during President Obama’s Inauguration late last year. Well, maybe we’ll get ‘em next time, right?

If you’ve been to Singapore lately, you know the place has been undergoing a face-lift, but have you heard the latest? The Swarovski-studded-cable-cars latest? I thought not.
The cable cars between Singapore’s Mt. Faber and Sentosa have been a huge tourist attraction and for that very reason, the old style cars are going to be introduces to 68 new Swarovski-studded additions. The whole project will cost a total of $36 million, but the attraction alone might just be worth it.

It’s a good thing we haven’t been actually waiting inside the Tibet train for service to begin, as it’s going to be yet another long haul before the train gets a movin’.
Originally slated to begin service from Beijing to Tibet sometime in September 2008, the Tibet train project’s official launch is being held off again until Spring 2009.
Tickets will likely cost anywhere between $3,300-$5,000 per person, and then we’ll finally know if it’s been worth the wait.

Things are bad all over. The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art project may not actually open its doors until 2011.
Designed to house the world’s best collection of American art, the Bentonville, Arkansas museum has been delayed in construction due to high costs of materials.
Containing Wal-Mart’s heiress Alice Walton’s American art collection, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art sits on 100 acres of the Ozarks forest and once finally open, hopes to see 250,000 visitors per year.

China already enjoys a train line to Tibetan capital Lhasa, but now the country is planning to create, ”the most luxurious train in the world,” (insert evil luxury laughter here).
The proposed train will feature 12 passenger cars along with two luxury dining cars as well as a sightseeing car. Each passenger car will have four small suites which will be decorated the like of a five-star hotel with a double bed, living room & bathroom area (whatever you can do with 108 square feet, that is).
The five-day train ride will cost you a little over $5,000 & will leave every eight days from Beijing. Start booking your luxury ride starting September 1.

I’m all about odd stuff. Gimme something odd & I’ll be a happy camper all day long.
Me & fashion designer Alexander McQueen must have something in common then, as he has recently introduced his newly designed Skeletal Suitcases.
Made to look like a subtle human skeleton, these new suitcases are at the same time modern & almost classic.
“The human form is treated just like an animal skin, with the ribcage and sternum at the front of the case, and backbone at the back. The inside is formed by the negative of the outside shape in a soft molded form providing contrast with the outer protective hard shell.”
Cost, around $750.

Helihiking, if you hadn’t heard, is hiking by helicopter. Sounds kinda like cheating, but it’s easier on the legs & back I imagine.
Basically when you’re trying to make a living in the summer when all the snow is melted, you do what you can. And that’s where helihiking comes in. Canadian Mountain Holidays has six lodges located in Canada that serve as luxury base camps. By day you travel to the mountains for a bit of a hike & by night, you enjoy an evening spent by the fireplace.
Three-day packages start at $2,085.
