Napoleon’s Sword Auctioned for $6.4 Million

A sword that was given as a wedding gift to his brother by Napoleon in 1805 has been auctioned off for $6.4 million.  The auction took place in Paris & the buyer has of yet remained unidentified.

The sword was actually carried by Napoleon before he was emperor into the Battle of Marengo back in June of 1800.  The weapon was declared a national treasure by France in 1978 which means that if it was ever sold to a foreign buyer, they have to remain in France for five months out of the year.  Not too bad a deal, eh?

Amid boxes & inside a cardboard box itself, some of writer John Steinbeck’s letters have been found. Among the effects of the late Guys and Dolls producer, Ernest H. Martin, letters of the author have been located as well as a missing draft of Sweet Thursday.

So, to be short, this is a piece of Steinbeck history that has been recovered. And just in time for a Mother’s Day auction. PBA Galleries in San Francisco will be auctioning off these gems on May 24. The almost lost lot is worth an estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.

I have found that the day after Valentine’s Day usually results in one of two ways.  One way is that you both feel invigorated after the previous evening’s events & all the good lovin’ you shared.  Another way it tends to work out is that you both wake up the day after feeling tired & cranky after an argument-filled evening.

Well, the holidays are right around the corner & I know you’re ready for them.  But if you still have room for some improvement on that Christmas list of yours, take a look at these beautiful Precious Gems Christmas Ornaments from the legendary Waterford company.

These lovely ornaments are designed by Jim O’Leary & made of optic glass decorated with gold glitter topped with gold-plated caps.  I feel like if you’re going to use the word ‘Gems’ in your Christmas ornament description, they had better have some precious gems, but these babies do not unfortunately; these ornaments are just “inspired” by the gemstone colors.  Too bad & so sad.  Cost, $40 - $60.
