The Ugliest, The Loveliest, Most Expensive Watch Ever

February 20, 2006 | Posted by Allison as Jewelry at 2:29 pm | (5) Comments »

Watch.jpgThe Swiss company Chopard has created a monster of a timepiece.  Subtle, no.  A bit gaudy, yes.  Incredibly expensive, you better believe it.

Three heart-shaped diamonds rest gracefully on this “watch”.  The Pink heart Diamond weighs in at 15 carats, the Blue Heart Diamond at 12 carats and the White Heart Diamond at 11 carats.

Now that might be enough for most of us, but wait!  The bracelet is encrusted with 163 carats of white & yellow fancy shaped diamonds which make delicately designed little flowers for a total of over 200 carats.

What is the damage you ask?  $25 million.  And it tells time too!

Million Dollar Rocks

You’ve worked hard this year, and 2005 was good to you.  Now that it’s that romantic time of year, why not treat the love in your life to a love all her own- diamonds.

Here are a few tips to help any of you prospective buyers- the Four C’s:  Cut, Clarity, Color & Carat weight.

  1. Cut is the most important, but it does not refer to the shape (pear, princess, emerald) but its brilliance and proportions.
  2. A stone with more clarity with have less flaws- you love her flawlessly, right?
  3. Except for colored diamonds, the ideal is colorless- no yellowing, black flecks, etc.
  4. The larger the diamond, the more carats it contains.

Now that you know more than you did, let’s get buying!

 Diamond Earrings, Winston.bmp

Harry Winston, Diamond Drop Earrings, $8.5 million

(Equivalent to 30,249 boxes Partagas Limited Reserve Robusto cigars)

Say, these will make her ears ring–and the cash register, too. The House of Winston really knows how to dress up the extremities, as these glittering Extraordinary Diamond Drop Earrings prove. As simple as icicles, yet a lot longer lasting, each will set her lobes glimmering with two pear-shaped diamonds in a platinum setting. That’s 60.1 carats all together, and all of it stunning.

 Graff Ring.bmp

Graff, Fancy Deep Blue Diamond Ring, $2 million

(Equivalent to 22 guided climbs up Mt. Everest, including extra oxygen and tips)

We could think up a lot better uses for Graff’s Fancy Deep Blue Diamond Ring than a mere Valentine’s Day gift–for instance, a proposal–but given the season, it’ll have to do. The blue hue is the key to the diamond’s cache and price, as fancy diamonds of such deep blue color are extraordinarily rare. Chiseled with a striking emerald cut, the 2.4-carat diamond is set in platinum amidst white diamond-tapered baguettes.

 Chanel Watch.bmp

Chanel, D-Flawless Bracelet Watch, $1.9 million

(Equivalent to 93 ‘06 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glides)

There are two types of watches at the high end of the dial: those that intrigue with complications, and those that dazzle with jewels. For Valentine’s Day, we feature one of the latter just for her. Part of Chanel’s globe-hopping Collection Privee, the D-Flawless Bracelet Watch is arrayed in 18-karat white gold with 120 cultured pearls of 6 millimeters to 6.5mm diameter, and 133 diamonds for a total weight of 35.1 carats, including 32 brilliant-cut diamonds of 1 carat per. Oh, and it tells time, too.

Some beautiful jewels, for your own beautiful jewel.
