Analysts often look to the luxury market to make predictions about the state of the world economy. Ififfany & Co’s forecasting is any indication, we can all look forward to a gradual, but sure, ease to the recession. Tiffany reported increased earnings this year and their stock is up. Not only that, but the company is branching out within their Asian and South American markets.
A lot of companies may be forced to lower their earnings expectations due to the tragic events in Japan, but Tiffany says that they will be able to earn the money they expected to earn this year in Japan in China and Brazil instead. Tiffany itself is predicting even higher earnings for themselves than Wall Street. Of course, none of these things may come to pass. But if they do, it will be a sure sign that financial stability is beginning to poke its head through the world economy.

The stakes are high this holiday season. I guess they always are, but it seems like right now, everyone already has all the basic luxury goods. Even those with a lot of spending money are buying fewer big ticket items and more small ones, which makes gift-giving a little harder. Unless you’re ready to invest in a Bentley for your sweetie, you better starting thinking quick, because she already has an iPhone.
This gorgeous Shooting Star Skeleton Ring is a great gift for a woman with minimal, artistic taste. If she’s not into a lot of bling, this pared down piece of beautiful design is a good choice. The intricate style looks almost like a model of a gem, or its skeleton, thus the name. The 18 karat white gold gives it a cool, edgy look.
This is the kind of ring that quickly becomes a signature piece. It’s unique and versatile, sparkly enough to wear with a cocktail dress, but simple enough for everyday. I can’t wait to see more from Solange Azagury-Partridge.

SAGGI, a notable European jewelry design house has recently released several new haute lines. The “Male” line (for men obviously) is the true stand-out of the group. It features cufflinks and rings that make you believe Henry the VIII has just stepped through a time portal and rewarded you for some great service to king and country.
While SAGGI scores a big win with the Male line, it suffers a horrific flop with it’s new Gothic line.
In an attempt to capitalize on the love of all things alternative and skull-ridden it’s produced some truly garish pieces that look more like they came from a bubble gum machine than a respected jewelry designer. Sorry SAGGI, but that’s a poor use of gorgeous natural gems.
The cufflinks pictured are made of 18 ct. white gold, diamonds and yellow sapphires. Beautiful!

So do you remember the cover of Duran Duran’s Rio album? Yeah, we didn’t either, we had to look it up to see what the late artist Patrick Nagel’s work looked like and then we were like, “Ohhhhhh yeah, that guy.”
Well that guy’s widow Jennifer Dumas is teaming up with Character Vision and United Brands Worldwide to create a luxury jewelry collection inspired by Nagel’s 1980s artwork. While there are no images as of yet as to what this collection might look like, it does prove that we’re still getting 80s throwbacks into today’s fashion culture. It will be interesting to see the reaction to this new collection coming out in 2011.

From almost ugly to stunningly misshapen these 24kt gold pieces range in price from $300 to $700.

With the cost of gold rising and rising, we’re all pretty curious about how much an Olympic gold medal is actually worth, and we have the answer!
So, each gold medal is made with 550 grams of silver covered by 6 grams of gold which balances out to around $500 per gold medal, whereas a silver medal is worth around $260 and sadly the bronze only $3.

76-year-old Dynasty actress Joan Collins is getting back into modeling as the new face of Alexis Bittar jewelry.
Luxury costume jewelry designer Alexis Bittar has hired the older actress as the face of the new collection, saying that Collins is perfect for the role. It sorta of makes sense when you think about it. Bittar’s over the top jewelry line does seem to match Collins’ style, doesn’t it?
