Pump up the volume with Gramophone

The Gramophone is a highly exclusive Hi-Fi loudspeaker handcrafted in Sweden. Made of carbon fiber and stainless steel, the technology has been developed by three of the companies behind the Swedish super sports car manufacturer, Koenigsegg – Ergonomidesign, Eker Design, Carbocomp – and all commissioned by Aesthesis.

The attention to detail has been immaculate, from the overall sound quality right down to each and every component. Since The Gramophone was designed to make a statement and stand out for its audio and aesthetics, every aspect of developing a loudspeaker had to be questioned. The result is The Gramophone, which integrates several sound improving features into one gorgeous design.

At the heart of the design is a full range, coaxial driver developed by SEAS which reproduces the whole frequency range from a point source and minimizes phase differences. The specifically-designed curved horn in which the coaxial driver is placed amplifies the higher frequencies and the open cabinet amplifies the lower frequencies mechanically. Finally, echoes are damped very effectively by the precise narrowing of the cabinet.

The cabinet’s exclusive features make it possible to create a more powerful sound without distortion than would otherwise be possible. Only a limited number of these will be in production so be the first to get yours. For more information, visit www.aesthesis.se.

I have to admit, I know nothing about turntables.  So, you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that there’s one out there on the streets going for a cool $19,000.

The VPI HR-X Turntable by TEAC features a new belt-driven design that comes with a 50-mm thick platter which actually floats on an air suspension system at 45rpm.

The luxurious turntable is expected to go on sale in Japan starting in mid-June.  So, you’re gonna get at least two, right?
