Mobile homes have a bad rep. Mention them and images of hillbillies or overweight retirees comes to mind, but the truth is much more interesting. The other day I met some a nice (and incidentally very wealthy) couple who spent three years traveling in a mobile home with their horse trailer while their dream home was being built. Their home was actually featured on the mobile edition of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. So, if you’re envisioning faux wood paneling and formica in every Airstream you pass on the highway, you might be a little off base.
Luxury isn’t yet synonymous with Airstream, but it might be soon. Their Next-gen series is full of modern features that make it interesting and beautiful, not to mention practical. The second series of Next-gen includes a large wardrobe, dressing area, and dedicated space for your home-away-from-home office.
The exterior of the Airstream hasn’t changed much, because it doesn’t need to, but the inside is full of LCD TVs and all the little comforts of home.

BMW’s Series 6 convertible was released to long-awaited to fanfare. But just in case you don’t live in one of the warmer climes, where having a convertible actually makes sense, BMW has recently released the hardtop version of the car, and it was well worth waiting for. The sleek new shape has smoother, more aerodynamic lines and comes packed with all the luxury features that you would expect out of a BMW.
It comes with a 4.4 liter, 400 horsepower, twin-turbocharged engine, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 650i retails for just under $80,000, and it is also available in a manual transmission. The beautiful machine has dual-zone climate control, an 8-speaker audio system, auto-dimming mirrors, and a moonroof. Safety features include radar-managed cruise control and a night-vision screen. The entire machine is powered by BMW’s iDrive system, which means that it’s all totally integrated.

Collaborations between carmakers and fashion design houses are nothing new. Everyone from Eddie Bauer to Hermes has put their name and logo on a car. I have to be honest, though, that this is one I didn’t see coming. Fiat and Gucci have teamed up to produce this limited edition Fiat 500.
The car features the fabulous Gucci striping on the side, and is upholstered in Guccissima-logoed leather. All of the interior details, from the safety belts to the gear shift is also green and red. The new 500 will be on display in GenevaMotor Show from March 3rd to March 13th. Customers will be able to pre-order their Fiats online beginning April 1st. Models will be in European dealerships in July, but not until the end of the year worldwide. At $17,000 euros, inch-for-inch, this might be one of the most reasonably-priced Gucci purchase you could ever make.

Are you a car collector that simultaneously longs to exhibit your priceless collection and keep it far from the dust and dirt of the ordinary world? Well, Dimostra Automuseo has a solution for you. The company has recently debuted a digital portfolio service that takes breathtaking photos of your vehicles and displays them in virtual showrooms. If your cars are on the market, this is the perfect way to merchandise them for auctions. If not, it’s just a great way to show off or share your passion with other like-minded collectors.
But Dimostra doesn’t just show pictures of the rare and luxury automobiles it showcases. The cars are presented with a complete, historical narrative that includes a history of the car’s owners and the development of the vehicle. Enthusiasts can subscribe to the service (just to look) for $9.99 a month. Dimostra’s Nawrocki told Luxist, “As rare collector cars become more valuable, their presence in public will continue to diminish. We hope to bridge this void in the collector car market.”

On July 29th, 1886, Carl Benz walked into the Berlin patent office and made automotive (and cultural) history. His three-wheeled “horseless carriage” would not be a success. But 80,000 other patents later and here we are, with Mr. Benz’s carriage leading the world in luxury car sales. That’s right, tomorrow the ubiquitous Mercedes-Benz will be a whopping 125 years old, and damn it looks good for its age.
Where would the world be without the iconic Mercedes logo? Think of all the empty rapper’s necks, and empty lower back tattoo spaces. Okay, forget about that, think of all the empty garages! Mercedes will be celebrating this landmark anniversary with a gala in Stuttgart tomorrow night, featuring German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the guest of honor. Dr. Dietre Zetsche, the chairman of the MB board says on this historic occasion, “we also have the claim to shape the future of mobility: with fascinating brands, green technologies and new business opportunities.” Keep up the great work, Benz!

Mohamed al Fayed, the former owner of Harrod’s, London has something of an infamous car collection. It seems however, that Mr. al Fayed is liquidating his collection after selling Harrod’s last year to Qatar’s royal family for $2.2 billion. Maybe this is his version of a New Year’s makeover? Out with the old, in with the new? Maybe it’s just out with the old, but in any case, his loss could be your gain as the he rolls out his collection of Ferraris and Rolls-Royces.
All in all, al Fayed is putting ten cars up for sale, some expected to sell for more than $220,000 each. One of the most coveted cars on the chopping block is a 1965 Ferrari formerly owned by John Lennon (not to mention Dodi Fayed). A 1963 Rolls Phantom limo that used to belong to Prince Edward is expected to fetch around $240,000. One thing’s for sure, this is not your average used car sales lot, and you can bet that no high-pressure sales are going to be necessary.

We all know Audi for their sleek styling and well-designed cars. But, I bet you’ve never seen an Audi like this one! That’s because, unlike the rest of the Audi line, this Audi is a toy. It was unveiled last week at the International Toy Fair, and was the second time that Audi showed at the fair in Nuremberg.
This is no little matchbox machine, either. While the Audi C e-tron isn’t your usual motor vehicle vehicle, it is a child-sized pedal-powered toy about half the size of the car it’s modeled after, the Audi C Silver Arrow. The C e-tron does have a motor, and will go up to speeds of almost 19 miles per hour, which makes it a pretty powerful little toy. The motor is also electric, and can last up to 15 hours on a single charge. Right now, it’s still in the concept stages, but you can bet that a little speed demon you know is going to have this on her wishlist faster than you can say “mass production”.

The glovebox of the Centenary Collection Rolls-Royce Phantom is inscribed with the words, “A graceful little goddess, the Spirit of Ecstasy, who has selected road travel as her supreme delight and alighted on the prow of a Rolls-Royce motor car to revel in the freshness of the air and the musical sound of her fluttering draperies.” These words were used by Charles Sykes, the designer of the Spirit of Ecstasy, the graceful statue that adorns every Rolls-Royce, to describe the Phantom in 1911. A hundred years later and they couldn’t be more apt.
The new Phantom was designed to celebrate the 100th birthday of this lithe goddess, and the line includes unique new color palettes, a clock and other special instruments set into the dash, and each comes with a replica hood, so that the owner can enjoy her even when she’s not being driven. Most Rolls-Royces are beautiful, but this one is truly a splendor to behold. Happy Birthday, indeed.

Renting an exotic car in New England is a much smarter financial decision than buying one. Cars depreciate in value rather quickly and the maintenance costs or fairly high. Also the cars are not all season every day cars, and tend to only be garaged more than driven. Status Ride’s fleet is within an hour of most major cities in New England and can bring the car right to your door. The company offers a good healthy mix of exotic and luxury. Maybe one day you feel like a Mercedes and one day you feel like a Ferrari…It is New England so maybe one week it’s 85 degrees out and the next it’s snowing.
Just because we have more pot holes per capita than any other region and we can go from sunshine to snow in the blink of an eye, it does not mean that we don’t love cars. We may have to be a tad more careful when driving but that shouldn’t stop us from feeling the same rush that someone down south feels when they rev the engine of a shiny, sexy Lamborghini and it shakes them to their core. We want to be shaken as well damn it!
Currently their fleet consists of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, Lexus and Cadillac, with more exotic and luxury vehicles added regularly. If you are looking for the ultimate VIP experience, Status Ride offers packages that include line privileges and complimentary access to events with private table service. For more information, visit www.statusride.com.
