European luxury car manufacturer Porsche has been trying to bring more eco-conscious vehicles to the US for some time.  According to Automotive News Europe, the automaker is trying their best to bring diesel versions of their luxurious Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan to the States.

These much more fuel-efficient vehicles would meet the new diesel US standards on emissions and save your wallet on gas money at the pump.

According to Automotive News Europe, Porsche would steadily bring in more diesel vehicles to the US as more luxury car buyers are preferring to be more eco-conscious with their car purchases.

“We are discussing internally if we should introduce the Cayenne diesel in the U.S. this year. Also a Panamera diesel is an option,” revealed Bernhard Maier, Porsche’s sales and marketing chief.

More eco-friendly luxury vehicles coming to the US can only further booster sales and highlight the importance of going green.

Rolls-Royce Electric Limo On the Way?

January 11, 2011 | Posted by bLavish as Fast & Furious Cars at 9:32 am | Comments off

British luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce has given the biggest clue yet that an electric limousine may be on the way!

For more years than we care to remember, Rolls-Royce has rumored that a green limo was secretly in production, without backing up this news with any proof but now it looks like the proverbial cat may be out of the bag.

Before Christmas the Rolls Royce chief executive Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes indicated that the car maker was in the process of looking into a variety of options with a view to creating an eco-Rolls Royce as he said an “experimental” model would be a “good idea.”

Rolls Royce’s parent company, BMW, is due to unveil their state of the art green technology for low emission vehicles next year. The new green models will be showcased at the London 2012 Olympics where they will be used to chauffeur VIP guests at the Games. Rolls Royce may well follow suit and plan to debut their green limo at the 2012 Olympic Games for maximum exposure.

The unveiling of a greener luxury car fit for kings would do a world of good by replacing the gas-guzzling previous models that have become the mainstay in the luxury car community.  Can’t wait to see what Rolls-Royce has to offer!

Sort of a contradiction in terms, isn’t it?  To build a luxurious, solid gold car from one of the most basic and certainly cheapest cars, the Tata Nano.

But it looks like the Nano has won the best design to be worthy of celebrating 5,000 years of Indian jewelry.  From a total of thirteen proposals submitted, this is the design chosen to celebrate the austere anniversary.

The custom car will be built using pure gold provided by Titan Industries and will then go on display for all to see in India in the coming year.  Talk about showing off those jewels!

The same Russian billionaire, Mikhail Prokhorov, who purchased the New Jersey Nets NBA franchise is starting a new luxury venture, hybrid vehicles.

Prokhorov said Monday the cars, powered both by gasoline and electricity, are “socially important products” that he hopes will “overcome existing stereotypes … that Russia cannot make normal cars.”

The vehicles are to be sold in three models – sedan, sporty and a small truck – with an expected price of around $10,000 (€7,550).

The name is written in Russian by the letter E with two dots over it.

While there are no current plans to introduce the cars to the US, we’re betting that Prokhorov will eventually take his plans to the States, or at least we’re hoping on it!

Lotus made a lot of Indy car racing fans happy this week at the LA Car Show when they announced that they would be providing engines and aerodynamic kits to racing teams in 2012. Lotus dabbled in Indy racing this year by sponsoring driver Takuma Sato.

IndyCar boss Randy Bernard said, “Lotus is a renowned name in racing, with a long association with some of the greatest names of motorsports. We’re honored Lotus has chosen to serve as an engine manufacturer for the first time with us. We are excited about the future of Indy car racing with the addition of Chevrolet and Lotus as well as the continued involvement of our longtime engine supplier Honda.”

Enthusiasts are taking the announcement as a sign that IndyCar racing is becoming more popular. Lotus hasn’t been heavily involved in racing since the 1960′s, but even then their designs were considered revolutionary. In fact, it was a Lotus Type 38 that won in 1965. Let’s see if they can make this much-anticipated comeback an extraordinary one.

The LA Car Show was last weekend, and the latest models of the hottest cars are in. It’s not just new models that are on display, though, it’s also new ideas. This new Jaguar C-X75 combines the latest in hybrid technology with ultra-sleek good looks.

The car was dubbed the C-X75 in honor of Jaguar’s 75th birthday. This concept car is something of a new flagship for the company. It’s no ordinary hybrid, either. The C-X75 can go up to 68 miles while producing absolutely zero emissions. That capability, combined with its fuel efficiency gives it a total range of about 560 miles on a single six-hour charge.

Jaguar says of its latest addition to the family, “The C-X75 boasts advanced design features such as a ground-breaking propulsion system, and active aerodynamics allow for an elegantly simple fuselage section that remains stable at very high speeds.” This is the kind of hybrid car that’s going to give hybrid cars a whole new kind of reputation.

2011 Hyundai Equus

November 9, 2010 | Posted by bLavish as Fast & Furious Cars at 11:54 pm | (1) Comment »

When you think of luxury cars, Hyundai probably isn’t the first name that comes to mind. There’s a good reason for that. Up until recently, they basically made mid-sized, mid-priced sedans. But in 2009, the company launched the Equus in order to compete with the likes of the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes S-Class. And compete they have. For around $60,000, the Equus is a fine machine, but it lacks the charisma of its rivals.

The new 2011 edition arrived at dealerships in August. Automobile Magazine says of the Equus, “Much like the Genesis, the Equus lacks character and charisma in its exterior styling. Bland and derivative, the design doesn’t deliver the prestige that a vehicle in this class deserves. The inside, though, delivers on the luxury.”

This was the take up most of the Equus reviews. It has a nice engine, smooth ride, fabulous interior, but it just doesn’t have any style. Hopefully, Hyundai will learn its lesson this year and deliver a more exciting Equus for 2012.
