tuna-fish.jpgRecently a Japanese sushi restaurant owner paid more than anyone has ever paid for a single bluefin tuna,  $49,000.  The super-sized tuna was caught by fishermen off the coast of Aomori & weighed in at 607 pounds, which is, if I’ve got my math right here, ummm….close to $100 per pound.  Wow, now that’s quite a catch!

The bluefin tuna was actually auctioned off at the world’s largest  fish market in Tokyo & according to experts the record price seems to have been caused by the sharp decline in the world’s tuna supply due to overfishing as well as tighter international controls for bluefin tuna.

But all in all, not a bad day’s work.
