At the center of an upcoming Sotheby’s auction is this amazing piece of antiquity, a rare Franz Joseph I-commissioned Neo-Gothic Terracotta Chimney Piece.

Made in the late 19th century, this 8.5-ft. tall chimney frame was built to stand guard at one of the many large fireplaces in the Hapsburg family palaces.  This antique piece is expected to fetch around $700,000 in the upcoming Sotheby’s’ Origines, Architecture & Heritage, Decoration and Garden Statuary auction in Paris.
