Ian Fieggen is an interesting guy.  Not only can you go to his website & learn how to tie your shoelaces in stylish & eye-catching ways, you can learn about him & his family tree.  But let’s stick with the shoe tying business for now.

Ever wanted to tie up your shoes into fascinating & complicated designs?  Well, look no further than Ian Fieggen & his Checkerboard Shoe Lacing Design.  Get out those favorite Pumas & get crackin’.  Here goes…

1. Start with two pairs of different color laces, preferably the wide, flat variety. (I was lucky to receive two such pairs with my last runners!)

2. With one color (yellow in my example), lace the shoe using either Straight (Fashion) or Straight (Lazy) Lacing.

3. With the other color (blue in my example), start at the bottom of the shoe and weave the lace in and out of the other lace until you reach the top.

4. Fold around the top lace and head back down, weaving out and in until you reach the bottom.

5. Continue across the shoe until you’re out of room or out of lace, whichever comes first.

6. Tuck all the loose ends of the laces into the shoe.

This Checkerboard design features:

  • Very decorative
  • Slip-on or off (no knot required)
  • Loose fit

Wow.  I’ve always wanted to know how to do that.  Now if I only still had my high school Simples…
