   This Machine is a great idea, but it occurs to me tat the liabilty this company will have whe crases happen will be extensive. The fact that it is so easy for anyone to get into the pilot seat will almost certainly give this copter a very dangerous reputation. Also, the lack of an autorotation ability means that if any engine malfunction happens, the occupant of the machine is in serious trouble

   Hummm!!! I can see the date of previous e-mails and it confused me. In another websites I found e-mails since 2004 talking about this team and we are in 2009. What is happening that this product is not in mass production yet? It look like it will be a boom in the aviation industry but they need to include a autorotation device at least for an emergency situation and make sure the price runs in the 20K. The website do not sho any progress at all.

   Fernando,

   The airscooter will likely never be sold to the public. Evidently it’s used just to attract more investment money.

   1. Promise after promise of a production date have been broken for years.
   2. It can never auto rotate since it has fixed pitch rotors and no collective pitch control. One must increase engine speed to climb (slowly). When the engine stops (they all do sooner or later), so do the rotors and you die (unless very close to flat ground – say 10 feet with little forward speed).
   3. Promises of a ballistic chute are only vaporware. They said it was being researched years ago with no apparent progress.

   People have dreamed of (and invested in) a personal helicopter for many years but the sad fact is that they require more cost, skill and dedication then the average person can master. Even so, they are dangerous at best. If you want, invest in some lessons on a Robinson or equivalent helicopter at the local airport to get an idea of what it’s like to fly a helicopter.

    Did you read all the posts? This product does not exist except as a dangerous prototype that the test pilot is afraid to fly above about 10 feet. The company could not get financing to get this death trap into production. Want to know more? Look up Airscooter corp on the internet at http://www.airscooter.com/. If you must have a personal helicopter see if you can find a used Mini 500. Many of those who built and flew one are now dead. Even the original designer recommends against buying one as no one could build it so it would not crash and there is no longer any support. If the 2 stroke engine didn’t quit, the transmission would chew itself up or it would vibrate itself to pieces, among other problems. I’ll bet that won’t stop you since we already know you only see what you want to see and disregard the rest.

    James: Can you understand that this is not a product that is for sale? Can you read? Are you too lazy to go to their web site. You are obviously way too stupid to safely fly anything.

    t.c.: Pontoons will not save you when the engine quits. Are you trying to be stupidly macho with your bravado? Also, again for the slow witted – THIS IS NOT A PRODUCT FOR SALE AT ALL. If you visited the company web site and read it, you would find that no one will finance the production of this machine due to the liability involved (Death Trap). You can hope and dream all you want but this will never be sold to the public.

    I actually think that there is a chance that it will one day be sold to the public. I say this because another company is selling a similar (and shittier) helicopter. It too is an ultralight with counter rotating rotors and also requires no certificate to fly. I think that they are available to the public and they cost $30,000. The reason why no progress is shown on their website is because they are still working on safety issues, which as HK has stated, are quite drastic. Of course, we must realize that safety has always been a problem with ultralights, both planes and choppers. Besides, if they were worried about liability they would have you sign a liability waver upon purchase. And if you buy one and you’re still worried about falling from the sky, just keep the engine spotless. Clean and well maintained engines typically run well. And my guess is in the years that it has taken them to refine their prototype they have worked with the company that produces the engine to refine it further. Also, because it’s a four stroke it will not consume itself like a two stroke, plus the thing has simple controls, so it will most likely score high reliability. So, basically what I’m saying is that it has a shot at becoming a product that is available to the public and hell, if it doesn’t and you really want one, go ahead and design your own damn chopper, it’ll give you something to do over the summer and it’s cheaper. Hope this comment was helpful as I think I covered all the problems that were brought up on this forum.
